PowerGuard Outdoor 115 VAC 60/400 Hz Military AC-AC Frequency Converter
PowerGuard Outdoor is a defence-grade frequency-conversion platform that combines three critical capabilities of modern defence platforms in a single compact system: frequency conversion (50 Hz ↔ 60 Hz / 400 Hz), isolated AC-AC power conversion and an intelligent power distribution unit (PDU). The system converts a 360–450 VAC, 50/60 Hz input into the 115 VAC 60 Hz and 115 VAC 400 Hz output formats required by military equipment with high stability and low harmonic distortion.MIL-STD-810F environmental, MIL-STD-461

Description
PowerGuard Outdoor is a defence-grade frequency-conversion platform that combines three critical capabilities of modern defence platforms in a single compact system: frequency conversion (50 Hz ↔ 60 Hz / 400 Hz), isolated AC-AC power conversion and an intelligent power distribution unit (PDU). The system converts a 360–450 VAC, 50/60 Hz input into the 115 VAC 60 Hz and 115 VAC 400 Hz output formats required by military equipment with high stability and low harmonic distortion.
MIL-STD-810F environmental, MIL-STD-461E EMI/EMC and MIL-STD-1399B ship power-system standards make it suitable for the harshest field conditions. From -32 °C to +55 °C, up to 3000 m altitude and weighing 270 kg, it sustains continuous mission-critical service across naval, air and ground platforms.
Product Overview
PowerGuard Outdoor brings together a multi-capability set in a single enclosure that defence platforms rarely find in one device. 115 VAC 400 Hz is available simultaneously with 115 VAC 60 Hz, addressing avionics and ground equipment from the same converter. The internal smart power-distribution architecture manages seven independent isolated outputs automatically while still letting the operator switch each output independently.
Static double-conversion topology and IGBT-based high-frequency PWM decouple the load from grid harmonics, transient surges and phase imbalance, delivering an output with under 5% THD. The isolated output transformer provides high-voltage insulation between source and load — essential for 400 Hz avionics test rigs, special military motors and calibration laboratory loads.
Who Buys PowerGuard Outdoor?
- Expeditionary airfield and ground-support-equipment (GSE) operators – for 400 Hz aircraft power
- Naval, air and ground vehicle on-board power-system integrators
- Mobile command-and-control and tactical communications vehicle manufacturers
- Test and calibration laboratories with 60 Hz and 400 Hz load mix
- Defence prime contractors and military procurement offices
- Forward-base, field-hospital and temporary-camp operators
- Data-centre, healthcare and critical-infrastructure operators
Technical Specifications
8 Capabilities That Set It Apart
1. Dual Frequency Conversion – 60 Hz and 400 Hz from One System
The defining feature of PowerGuard Outdoor is its dual-frequency output. Most platforms historically use one converter for 60 Hz ground equipment and a separate one for 400 Hz avionics. PowerGuard delivers both from a single cabinet, dramatically reducing footprint and logistics.
2. Smart Power Distribution Unit (PDU)
Built-in PDU logic switches seven separate isolated outputs automatically based on load conditions. Through color-coded buttons or remotely via Ethernet GUI/web, the operator can switch each output on or off independently — selective load management and fault isolation.
3. Ethernet Web Server + Desktop GUI
The unit hosts a built-in web server accessible from any browser without additional software. The TEDEG Frequency Converter Monitor desktop application offers in-depth control and data logging; SCADA / EMS / NMS integration is straightforward.
4. Real-time V / A / Hz Monitoring
Across all inputs and all seven outputs, the converter exposes live voltage, current and frequency, plus over/under voltage, over/under frequency, unbalanced load, temperature, contactor/fuse and communication-fault alarms.
5. Dual OLED Display Interface
Independent Information and Fault displays, color-coded physical control buttons per output, Activate/Deactivate All, Silent Mode, Reset and Buzzer controls — fast and intuitive operation.
6. Static Double Conversion + IGBT PWM
With no moving parts, the AC ⇒ DC ⇒ regenerated AC architecture prevents grid disturbances from propagating to the load. IGBT high-frequency PWM produces under-5% THD output.
7. Outstanding Overload Performance
At 0.8 PF: 125% load for 5 minutes, 200% for 5 seconds, 250% peak for 1 second — enough margin to ride through motor inrush and capacitive loads.
8. Full Military Standard Compliance
MIL-STD-810F (environmental durability), MIL-STD-461E (EMI/EMC), MIL-STD-1399B (shipboard power systems) — together turning the unit into a true defence-grade power system.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are 60 Hz and 400 Hz outputs available simultaneously?
Yes. The unit produces both frequencies at the same time. KN2-KN6 deliver 60 Hz and KN7-KN8 deliver 400 Hz. All seven outputs are independent and isolated.
What does smart PDU mean?
The internal architecture includes a power-distribution-unit logic that switches the seven outputs automatically based on load conditions. Operators can also enable or disable any output individually.
Which military standards does it meet?
MIL-STD-810F (environmental durability), MIL-STD-461E (EMI/EMC) and MIL-STD-1399B (shipboard power systems).
Do I need browser access or desktop software?
Both are available. The unit serves a built-in web server accessible from any browser without additional software, and a desktop GUI tool offers in-depth control and data logging.
Will it operate outdoors in the rain?
Yes. Tested to MIL-STD-810F for rain, water splashes, dust, humidity, vibration and shock, and rated for outdoor operation from -32 °C to +55 °C.
Is it suitable for expeditionary airfield use?
Yes — this is one of the primary use cases. The 400 Hz outputs (KN7 and KN8 — 4 kVA each) are sized for ground power supply to aircraft and helicopter avionics.
