Overview
Product and Purpose
PowerGuard MIL-UPS-2K3 is a military UPS system for naval platforms, shore systems and military electronic infrastructure, using a double-conversion online topology and producing a pure sine-wave output. It supplies critical military equipment — radar, communication equipment, computer systems, sensors and low power factor capacitive loads — with uninterrupted, clean and stable power.
In an online topology the load is always fed through the inverter, so input interruptions, voltage fluctuations and noise never reach it. When the supply fails completely, the VRLA gel battery pack takes over and provides 30 minutes of backup.
Engineering Capability
Input stage — AFE rectifier: The Active Front-End (AFE) rectifier architecture delivers high efficiency, low harmonic distortion and stable DC bus management across a 115 VAC ±20% input range. Sudden voltage changes, imbalances or harmonic faults on shore power are isolated at the AFE stage.
| Input feature | Value |
|---|---|
| Input voltage | 115 VAC (line-to-line), ±20% — operates from 92 to 138 VAC |
| Input frequency | 45–65 Hz |
| Input configuration | 3-phase (R, S, T + PE) |
| Input power factor | > 0.95 |
| Maximum input current | 25–30 A |
| Input protection | Overcurrent, undervoltage, reverse phase sequence, harmonic distortion |
Output stage — PWM-controlled inverter: A high-frequency PWM-controlled inverter produces a constant 115 VAC pure sine wave whether the load is capacitive, has a low power factor or draws inrush current, so radar transceivers, modems and radio systems run unaffected by power fluctuations.
| Output feature | Value |
|---|---|
| Nominal output voltage | 115 VAC (±2.5 VAC) |
| Output frequency | 60 Hz (±0.1 Hz) |
| Waveform | Pure sine |
| Rating | 2.3 kVA |

Typical Applications
- Naval and shore systems: Uninterrupted supply for mission-critical equipment
- Radar, sonar, electro-optical and communication systems
- Defence electronics control units and computer infrastructure
- Command and control centres and mission consoles
- Platforms with capacitive loads: Military systems with low power factor loads
- Mobile or fixed military power systems
The TEDEG Advantage
Commercial UPS units often become unstable on capacitive, low power factor loads. MIL-UPS-2K3 is designed to run stably on capacitive loads down to a 0.3 power factor, and its AFE input keeps shore power disturbances away from the load. Manual bypass keeps the load running during maintenance and testing.
For short-term on-vehicle backup after engine shutdown see the Supercapacitor Auxiliary Power Backup Unit; for isolated 115 VAC from a 400 VAC grid see the 400/115 VAC AC-AC Inverter.
Corporate assurance: TEDEG Defence is an approved supplier of ASELSAN, Roketsan and the Turkish Ministry of National Defence (MSB), with NATO supplier registration under NCAGE: TM885.
Production status: The images on this page show the pre-series validation unit.

FAQ
Why does an online (double-conversion) UPS matter?+
In an online topology the load is always fed through the inverter. Input interruptions, voltage fluctuations and noise never reach the load, and there is no transfer moment when the grid fails. For sensitive loads such as radar and communications, that is a critical difference.
How much backup does it provide?+
The VRLA gel battery pack provides 30 minutes of backup. The batteries are sealed and maintenance-free; battery voltage, current and status are shown on the OLED information display.
Can it supply capacitive loads?+
Yes. MIL-UPS-2K3 is designed to run stably on capacitive loads down to a 0.3 power factor. The PWM-controlled inverter produces a constant 115 VAC pure sine regardless of the load, with THD below 3% on linear loads.
Which standards is it designed to?+
The datasheet lists MIL-STD-1399, MIL-STD-810G and MIL-STD-461F: MIL-STD-461F-level filtering and shielding for EMI/EMC, and temperature, humidity, vibration, shock and mechanical stress under MIL-STD-810G.
Can it be monitored remotely?+
Yes. Monitoring and remote on/off control are available over the Ethernet interface (KN6). The unit also has dual OLED displays, alarm codes and fault logs.
What are its dimensions and weight?+
Body dimensions are 600 × 747 × 584 mm (W × H × D) and weight without batteries is 82 kg. It has 4 lifting eyes and two side handles for handling, and sits on 6-point vibration isolators.
