Overview
Product and Purpose
The PowerGuard AC-AC Frequency Converter Transformer System is a power conversion system developed by TEDEG Defence that brings a power transformer, a frequency converter and a power distribution unit together in a single cabinet. It is designed to meet one of the most basic needs of modern defence systems: reliable, continuous power delivered to every connected system at the right voltage and frequency.
The system accepts a range of electrical inputs and produces the two output formats that military systems require: 115 VAC 400 Hz and 115 VAC 60 Hz. Total capacity is 12 kVA. Its integrated power distribution function switches seven outputs individually, so several systems and subsystems on the same platform can each be supplied with power matched to their needs.
Optimised for naval and land platforms, the unit has been developed with demanding environmental conditions and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements in mind. It is intended for defence users who expect high operational reliability and performance.
Engineering Capability
Output configuration:
| Output | Quantity | Connection |
|---|---|---|
| 115 VAC 400 Hz | 2 | Three-phase, phase-to-phase (delta) |
| 115 VAC 60 Hz | 3 | Three-phase, phase-to-phase (delta) |
| 115 VAC 60 Hz | 2 | Single-phase |
Each of the seven outputs can be switched on or off with its own button on the control panel. All outputs can also be switched on or off in a single action.

Typical Applications
- Naval platforms: supplying shipboard systems that run on 400 Hz and 60 Hz from one cabinet, through individually switched outputs
- Land vehicles and field systems: meeting different frequency requirements on a platform with a single power conversion unit
- Mixed-frequency system architectures: reducing the need for separate transformers, converters and distribution boxes where 400 Hz and 60 Hz equipment run side by side
- Independent supply to multiple subsystems: switching off only the affected output during maintenance or a fault while other systems keep running
- Missions requiring light and noise discipline: adapting the panel to mission conditions with blackout and silent modes
The TEDEG Advantage
The PowerGuard AC-AC Frequency Converter Transformer System combines three functions in a single cabinet: voltage conversion, frequency conversion and power distribution. Sharing 12 kVA across seven independent outputs gives the system integrator separate control over each subsystem. With efficiency above 90% and harmonic distortion of no more than 5%, connected loads receive clean, efficient power.
CAN-Bus communication links the system to the platform's control infrastructure, while the OLED display, fault indicator and buzzer let the operator see the unit's status at a glance in the field. For other installation needs, see the PowerGuard Outdoor 60/400 Hz Frequency Converter and our wider range of military frequency converters.
Corporate assurance: TEDEG Defence is an approved supplier of ASELSAN, Roketsan and the Turkish Ministry of National Defence (MSB), with NATO supplier registration under NCAGE: TM885.

FAQ
What outputs does the system provide?+
There are seven outputs in total: 2 × 115 VAC 400 Hz three-phase phase-to-phase (delta), 3 × 115 VAC 60 Hz three-phase phase-to-phase (delta) and 2 × 115 VAC 60 Hz single-phase. Total capacity is 12 kVA.
Can the outputs be controlled individually?+
Yes. The control panel has a dedicated on/off button for each output, and all outputs can also be switched on or off together. During maintenance or a fault, only the affected subsystem needs to be taken offline.
How does it communicate with the platform?+
The system communicates over CAN-Bus. For local control, the OLED display shows fault and alarm status and lets the operator move between menus. The panel also offers an audible warning, blackout mode and silent mode.
What are the efficiency and power quality figures?+
Energy efficiency is above 90%. Harmonic distortion is no more than 5%, frequency modulation is no more than 4 Hz and the power factor is at least 0.85 (line-to-neutral).
What environmental conditions can it withstand?+
The unit operates at +50 °C, meets high-temperature endurance requirements for the A2 hot climate category and withstands −30 °C. It has also been tested for humidity, rain, sand and dust, solar radiation, vibration and 20 g / 11 ms functional shock, and has passed EMI/EMC testing. Contact TEDEG for full test details.
