Overview
Product and Purpose
The PowerGuard TPB-01 Reverse Polarity Unit protects the alternator and other sensitive components against wrong polarity connections in vehicle battery systems. Current flowing from a reversed battery can permanently damage electronic components and the vehicle's electrical system.
Using internal diode technology, the unit detects reverse polarity and breaks the circuit within milliseconds. Its time control shuts the alternator off 8 seconds after the excite signal drops, protecting the alternator from short circuits and overcurrent caused by reverse polarity.

Typical Applications
- Military vehicles: Alternator and electronics protection against wrong connection during battery replacement or jump-starting
- Commercial vehicles and heavy machinery: Wrong-connection protection on 12 V and 24 V battery systems
- Defence and industrial battery systems: Passive protection on high-current battery lines
The TEDEG Advantage
TPB-01 combines reverse polarity protection with alternator shut-off time control in a single IP67 enclosure, so not only the vehicle electronics but also the alternator is protected from the short circuits and overcurrent caused by a wrong battery connection. Standard terminals and a flanged base make it easy to add to an existing vehicle electrical installation.
For backup power after the ignition is switched off see the PowerGuard EBB Auxiliary Battery Unit; for 28 VDC bus distribution see the Vehicle DC Power Distribution Unit.
Corporate assurance: TEDEG Defence is an approved supplier of ASELSAN, Roketsan and the Turkish Ministry of National Defence (MSB), with NATO supplier registration under NCAGE: TM885.

FAQ
What does TPB-01 protect?+
It protects the alternator and sensitive vehicle electronics against the current that flows when the battery is connected in reverse. When it detects reverse polarity, it breaks the circuit within milliseconds.
What is the 8-second time control for?+
It shuts the alternator off 8 seconds after the excite signal drops. This delay prevents the alternator from being damaged by short circuits and overcurrent caused by reverse polarity.
What voltages and currents does it handle?+
It works on 12 V and 24 V DC battery systems with a current capacity of up to 500 A. Internal diode technology keeps energy loss to a minimum during protection.
How is it connected and mounted?+
The battery line enters through 2 × Pg21 metal cable glands and the load / alternator line leaves through the glands on the opposite face. Excite and control signals connect via the J1 4-pin circular connector. The unit bolts down at 4 points through its flanged base.
What environmental conditions can it withstand?+
The IP67 black anodised aluminium enclosure is designed for −40 °C … +120 °C operation. The bolted, gasketed lid protects against the water, dust and vibration found on vehicles.
